FEAR OR FANTASY I created this piece for the Fear or Fantasy exhibition curated by artist Asa Kennedy. The prompt, to create work touching on your fears or fantasies. I decided to play on both. I took this prompt as an opportunity to be experimental in my creative process, contemplating how vulnerable I wanted to be. This led me to turn towards my journals. I created this mold casting from a gift my mother brought home to me from El Salvador. I casted this object because it is a reminder of my roots. In the molding process, the original rattle was stripped of its paint and I could only faintly see where it was etched with the words ‘El Salvador’.   What is NUWAVE MAYAN? It's a term I created which I started to explore when the opportunity arose for me to share my art at The Lilley Museum (University of Nevada Reno). This gave me the chance to use my voice and use this platform to speak on important social issues that matter to me. You can read the full talk I gave which explains what NuWave Mayan is and gives insight on the piece created for the intervention with the Lilley's Untitled Keith Haring...

For that reason, I decided to experiment by combining certain letters of the...

The core in the release of self-expression whether we’re conscious of it or not is vulnerability, and through creation we can discover our true and essential invulnerability.   By letting go of resistance and fear in life and in creation we open ourselves up to explore new experiences which help us break out of our comfort zones, transcending us further into our self-growth, and connecting us to our most authentic selves. This also forges a link between the observer and my creative vision by encouraging the observer to use their imagination in generating their own visceral interpretation of what they...
